On August 7-8, 2014the excursion program was good organized within the III Kazakhstan Olympiad of young geologists. The participant and guests saw the beauty of Almaty city: Medeu, geological museum of the Kazakhstan Republic and Tanbaly petroglyphs.
As it is well-known, the world's largest mountain sports complex "Medeu" is located in the mountain area of Zailiysky Alatau at the height about 1 700 meters. The object was built in 1972, its author's group architects and engineers are awarded USSR state award. The area of an ice field is more than 10 500 sq.m it allows to carry out large-scale competitions such as speed skating, bandy, figure skating and other winter sports. Suffice to say that the best skaters of the world nicknamed the skating rink of Almaty "factory of records", the glorified Olympic champions, figure skaters Irina Rodnina and Alexander Zaytsev took part in competitions. The World Cup in speedway was carried out here. In total on "Medeu" over 120 world records were set up.
"The place is picturesque, beautiful; it staggers the imagination by the power. Air is pure, fresh and the nature is unusual. We have happily conquered 834 steps. We shall remember the trip forever" Ernar Zhaksylykov, the participant of the Olympiad from Kostanay city shared impression.
Then children went to the Geological museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Kanysh Satpayev was the founder of the first Geological museum in Kazakhstan. He foresaw the scientific importance and practical importance for future collecting and preservation of ores and minerals samples, especially from the objects disappearing in the course of industrial development.
The Geological museum was created by his order in difficult 1942 at Institute of geological sciences of the Kazakh branch of Sciences Academy which has a scientific focus and being the indisputable leader by quantity and a variety of geological samples of Kazakhstan. In 1969 constantly operating scientific and technical exhibition of the Ministry of geology was organized on the basis of geological collections of the Kazakh institute of Mineral raw materials and «Kazgeofiztrest».
In 1997 the exhibition was reconstructed and renamed into the Geological museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan at the initiative of Serikbeka Daukey, the minister of geology. The new museum was opened on August 26, 1997. Nursultan Nazarbayev, president of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Mintimer Shaimiev, president of the Republic of Tatarstan were at the official opening ceremony. The best collection material of the former exhibition, the best samples of ores and minerals from collections of territorial geological administrations, exhibits of private collections are the basis of the museum.
The first floor of the building of the Ministry of geology was reconstructed for the museum. It is not only a new, unique in design and interior room, it has revived anew and its updated exposition has got an effective information and presentation orientation. The task of the museum staff was following: to clearly demonstrate richness of a subsoil of Kazakhstan, to tell about achievements of its geological services, popularly to bring geological knowledge and other sciences of Earth to a wide range of visitors. Without any exaggeration there is the museum equipment, differing magnificent modern design and the original interior, completed with geological samples of the high esthetic value. The new museum perfectly solves the tasks set for it.
Children came into the foyer from which got to the main halls by means of the elevator made on an image of miner's cages which people intended for transportation in mines. The Small hall of the museum is on the exit of elevator which inners design imitates a gate way. Specific lighting, stone walls, fragments wooden fix, the trolley put on a piece of a railway line and filled with samples of various ores and rocks, sound effects of working cars and mechanisms create feeling of stay underground. The bust of Kanysh Satpayev, the founder of the Kazakhstan geological school, the founder and the first president of Kazakhstan Sciences Academy is set at the end of the Small hall, near the relief map of the main mineral deposits of Kazakhstan, each of them was designated by a tiny bulb, on a high pedestal.
There are the main exhibits of the Museum in the Big hall. There are mineral collection effective samples of minerals and ores which give rather complete idea about subsoil richness of Kazakhstan, geological variety of Earth planet and just about the beauty of "stone" in show-windows.
There is a unique collection of the Kazakhstan agate at the end of show-windows of mineral collection. There are large-size samples of ores and minerals from various fields on podiums and curbstones in the entire area of the hall. There are also the cinema hall, computers with educational geological programs, models, posters, cards, photos which visually explain many geological processes in the same hall.
There is 15 meters, colorfully painted panorama "History of development of Earth life" in extending part of the hall. Availability of materials statement, wealth and a variety of exhibits of the museum give chance to any visitor from the child of younger school age to the professional geologist to find here the information corresponding to knowledge level.
"The secret begins with descent down. And the card of the fields, very interesting stones, a panel with prehistoric animals, the movie about Earth, everything allowed to touch the secret of Earth" Maxim Novikov, the participant of the Olympiad from Tomsk city noted.
Petroglyphs of the Tanbaly, one of the most ancient and significant places in the territory of Kazakhstan were a final stop. They were entered in the list of objects of the World heritage of UNESCO.
The Tanbaly is in the Zhambylsky region of Almaty area in 160 km to the northwest from the city of Almaty in southeast part of Chu-Iliysky mountains. Chu-Iliysky mountains stretch from the south to the north from Zailiysky Alatau to Balkhash lake and the Betpak-Dala desert. The picturesque relief of the natural boundary of the Tanbaly was formed for the last 100 million years of geological history of Chu-Iliysky mountains. Tectonic movements played the main role in this process.
In the late 50th of the last century in Chu-Iliysky mountains, in the gorge of the Tanbaly, the unique place with rock paintings of unknown civilization was found. The ancient images which are in the basic in the lower part of the gorge are carried to the Bronze Age. Gallery of petroglyphs was beaten out three and a half thousand years ago. For convenience of the account all images were conditionally divided into seven groups. Counting of groups goes from the beginning of the gorge.
The mysterious civilization disappeared but it left us more than 4 000 drawings where our ancestors displayed their life and outlook. There are both animals and people, and the whole scenes from their life on pictures. Drawings of ritual sacrifices, initiation ceremony (dancing of two priests with two men devoted to a rank of soldiers), a cult of fertility, archery, the image of equestrians on horses and rounds are very interesting.
In the Tanbaly also there are drawings of animals that have nowadays completely disappeared in these regions. According to assumptions of scientists they are Przhevalsky's horse, a pendent, a cheetah, a caracal, a tiger deer, a tur, a tiger, a brachycerous bison, an ant-bear, a water goat. Images of mythical heroes, for example, the woman of the wild (snow) person, and also apparently people deities are also curious. Perhaps, they were priests. Up to now only 26 such drawings have remained.
Not all monuments of the Tanbaly are well studied, therefore there are many questions concerning history of this place still without answer. Near the gorge there are burial grounds of the Bronze Age (the XI-X centuries BC) and early nomads (III century BC and II century AD), and also their settlements.
Petroglyphs of Tanbaly since 2004 are object of the World heritage of UNESCO.
“There was a feeling as we touched history after visiting. We liked everything very much” Munira Sharipova, the head of team from Dushanbe city told.
